Lalitesh Katragadda: Making maps to fight disaster, build economies

I’ve always been fascinated with the idea of creating maps. When I first saw this video I was stunned at how powerful a map could be and how, using Google technology, they could save lives.

I think that using Google map maker would be an amazing project for a class to undertake. Or you pull together a series of classes such as computer tech, photography and anthropology and you map an area, shoot images of the major landmarks and then tell the story of the people who live there.

Look for more talks on Ted about map making, there are several, and all are interesting.

You can also check out Google MapMaker’s Site for information on how to get started.
